Cirque de Gavarnie depuis le refuge des Espuguettes
Argelès-Gazost is the ideal crossroads for exploring the Val d'Azun, Cauterets, Gavarnie and Hautacam.
Here is a selection of some memorable hikes that we recommend:
Lake Isaby (Hautacam)
A hike that starts downhill! We set off from the resort to reach a lake nestled in a grassy hollow. Very easy for children, a pastoral atmosphere guaranteed.
- Departure: Tramassel car park, Hautacam (25 minutes from Argelès).
Stats: 5 km | 200m D+ (on the return) | 2h15 round trip.
The Cirque de Gavarnie (Circus Hotel)
The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An easy but spectacular walk to admire the Great Waterfall (422m).
- Departure: Village of Gavarnie (45 min from Argelès).
Stats: 9 km | 300m D+ | 3 hours return.
Lake Gaube
The most famous lake in the French Pyrenees, at the foot of the majestic Vignemale. Leave early during peak season!

Stats: 6 km | 280m D+ | 2h30 round trip (possibility of going up by chairlift).
The Troumouse Circus
Less well-known than Gavarnie but larger and wilder. A vast natural amphitheater. The feeling of being alone at the end of the world, surrounded by 3000m peaks.
- Departure: Troumouse car park, via Gèdre (55 minutes from Argelès).
Stats: 5 km (loop on the plateau) | 150m D+ | 2h.

Lake Suyen
A very accessible hike in a lush, secluded valley.
